The studio

A small practice with a wide brief

Arbudamba works the way Gujarat's best buildings do - practically, economically and with respect for material. We take projects from first sketch through site handover: measured drawings, municipal approvals, structural coordination, interior detailing and supervision.

The studio is deliberately small. Every project is led directly by a principal and we take on only as much work as we can detail properly.

Alongside the design practice, we run an applied-research wing that pursues hard engineering problems - currently a Government of India iDEX challenge in through-metal communication.

Applied research

Innovation: through-metal communication

Beyond the drawing board, Arbudamba runs an applied-research practice. Our current programme is a challenge under iDEX - the Government of India's Innovations for Defence Excellence initiative - developing technology to transmit data through solid metal barriers without drilling, cabling, or penetrations.

Sealed steel structures - hulls, pressure vessels, bulkheads, containment enclosures - normally require physical penetrations to move data across them and every penetration is a structural and safety compromise. Our approach carries data acoustically through the metal itself, keeping the barrier intact.

The programme is ongoing, with working prototypes under evaluation. We are open to conversations with industry partners who face sealed-barrier data problems in marine, energy and industrial settings.

Do you take on interior design without architecture?

Yes. We take on standalone interior design projects - residential interiors, workplaces and clinics - detailed down to the joinery drawing, whether or not we designed the building.

Do you obtain municipal approvals and planning permissions?

Yes. Planning approvals and liaison with local authorities are part of our architecture service, so you do not have to coordinate approvals separately.
